Police Commemoration Day observed in SAS Nagar

• Deputy Commissioner, SSP and Judicial Magistrate pay homage to martyrs of police forces who laid down their lives in the line of Duty

As a mark of utmost respect to the brave and gallant, who laid down their lives for the protection of the unity and integrity of the country, Police Commemoration Day observed in District Administrative Complex, Sector-76 Mohali.

The Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia, SSP Navjot Singh Mahal, Judicial Magistrate First Class Mukesh Kumar Singla along with other police personnel paid homage to martyrs of police forces who laid down their lives in the line of Duty.

"The police are responsible for the internal security of the country. Police personnel, in the line of duty, sacrifice their lives for the sake of the country. Tributes are paid to commemorate their martyrdom. In the past one year, 377 police personnel sacrificed their lives in India including 2 personnel from Punjab. I salute the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country.  The nation shall forever remain indebted to these heroes." said Deputy Commissioner while addressing on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day. She said that let us also resolve never to forget our brave heroes, who have laid down their lives at the altar of duty, and also to look after the families of these police martyrs on this day. She added that the district administration has the firm determination to be with the families of martyrs in this hour of grief and every possible help would be provided to them.O

On this occasion SSP Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said we should work diligently to fulfil our duty, irrespective of consequences. Remembering our martyrs, on this day we should once again rededicate ourselves to protect the security and safety of the people of our country. He lauded the courage of the police personnel during COVID pandemic and said that when curfew was imposed due to Covid-19 and no one was allowed to go out; the police plunged into the fight head-on, regardless of their health or that of their families. While performing such frontline duties, 86 police officials and other personnel of the State lost their lives to COVID-19. He informed that the 35 families of Police Martyrs, belonged to the district, were not invited for the function due to the COVID protocols. These families would be facilitated at their homes.

Earlier, silence was observed for two minutes in the memory of the martyrs. The names of the martyrs were read out by SP (Head Quarters) Akashdeep Singh Aulakh. On this occasion, SP  (Industrial Security) Harbir Singh Atwal, SP (Operations) Mukhtiar Rai, DSP (Zirakpur) Amroz Singh, DSP (City-2) Sukhjeet Singh, DSP (SD Kharar-2/Mullanpur) Bikramjeet Singh, DSP (Headquarters) Manvir Singh, DSP (PBI Special Crime) Mahesh Inder Singh, DSP (PBI, Economic Offences and Cyber Crime) Gurpreet Singh, DSP (PBI, NDPS-cum-Narcotics) Rupinderjit Singh, DSP (Community Policing) Manjit Singh, DSP (SD Derabassi) Gurbakshish Singh, DSP (Technical Support and Forensics) Amarpreet Singh and DSP (Emergency Response System & CCTNS) Ganesh Kumar.

Pertinently, the history of the Police Commemoration Day dates back to 21st October 1959, when a patrol party of the CRPF led by Sub Inspector Karam Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Ladakh and 10 jawans achieved martyrdom.
